3 Tips to Decide If a Social Media Holiday Is Right for You
Before you join in on a #socialmediaholiday, ask yourself these three questions to determine if it’s the right fit for your business and your audience.
🤔 Does the holiday make sense for your brand?
Does it fit your brand personality, product, or service? If yes, then proceed to next tip below. If you’re even the slightest bit unsure, then sit this one out, there’s plenty more holidays in the the year. When it doesn’t make sense for your brand, you could risk looking like the Kool-Aid man busting into a meditation studio yelling, “Oh yeah!”
🕵️♀️ Do your research.
Look up the hashtag within the social platform. What type of content is associated with the holiday and does it fit your brand? Even if you’ve participated in the past, ALWAYS check the hashtag content before posting in case its meaning or usage has changed. Taking this step also helps you see the audience type(s) participating and if it’s a good fit for your business. Doing the research could save you from looking like the Steve Buscemi “Hello, fellow kids” meme.😂😬
🗣Does the holiday make sense for your audience?
When you researched the hashtag, did the audience type fit with your audience base? Can you see your audience or desired customers participating or having fun with it, too? Does it give them inspiration, a little laughter, or teach something new? Taking your audience into consideration can help you from being the brand who tries to make “fetch” happen (Mean Girls movie reference).🎀
Final tip: Don’t over do it!
Select no more than 2 social media holidays per month. If none are a good fit, that's OK! Always stay true to you and your brand. You do you, Gretchen. 😉
